A Few People I Treasure Most {Listable Life}

by Nicole on February 28, 2012

Listable Life is back for another week! Not sure what I’m talking about? Head HERE to find out.

This week, I chose to focus on those people in my life that I treasure most. It’s nearly impossible to make this an all encompassing list – but I gave it my best shot. I can’t believe I actually put five as the number when I put the prompt out there for you…but…

I’ll give it a go.

1.) My little family. This includes the husband and the little ladies. They are an all-in-one, all encompassing treasure.

2.) The Folks. The Grandparents. The in-laws (Yes, I happen to adore mine). In short,  those I look to for guidance in life.

3.) Friends that are like Family. My friends have long filled the gaping holes in my heart and I am so grateful. I have been blessed with several friends that I can honestly say are like family. My children call them Aunt and Uncle, we vacation together and we’ve lived through life’s challenges together. I will forever treasure them all.

4.) Men and Women Who Serve. I have a very dear friend of mine (see #3) who is packing up and leaving his lovely wife and their newborn daughter for a year…today. He will spend the moments when she first rolls over, crawls and laughs in Afghanistan serving in the United States Marine Corps. She may just take her first steps before he makes it back home – and my heart aches for all of them. This is not his first tour abroad, but it his first tour with a wife and daughter waiting at home for him.

He is not the first of my friends to go over and serve, boots on the ground in a war torn country and he will not be the last. In about a year, my husband will have his own taste of long months at sea away from our family.

I treasure them all for their sacrifice, their commitment and their bravery. Whether you agree with the ins and outs of the politics of our country – it is what it is because our Military serves day in and day out.

5.) The Baristas at Starbucks and the Wine Grape Growing People in Napa.  Because I’ve got priorities people. And three young children who drive me to drink both.

Who do you treasure most?

I love your #5. As I sit here at 6:30, I’ve been up since 5. I’m already exhausted, but I’m really grateful for the fact there is coffee brewing and soon, I will be awake. I love love your #4, I’m always impartial to service members, they have a very special place in my heart. And #3, since we’re always so far from family, lots of our military family friends have become our family.

Our military family has been a saving grace through the years, that’s for sure. Especially when we went through the everything with the twins while living in Hawaii.

Such a great list! The men & women who serve especially touched my heart~ such an incredible sacrifice that they make to help keep us all safe. Such a cute picture of your family in #1, too! :)

Thank you Amy! I was reminded of this one just last night when I got a phone call from my friend last night to tell me goodbye. I hope and pray for his safety over the next year as well as the rest of those who deployed with him recently.

You know I love #5 too!!! I like that you included your little family as just one – because that’s what it is. And friends that are like family are PRICELESS. I love that quote that says that friends are family that you get to choose ;)

Your number 4 breaks my heart. We’ve been there, too and nothing stirs my emotions more than to see a family separated by deployment. Great list!! I think we all appreciate #5, too. Because frankly, what would life be without Starbucks?

Great list. I know it’s so tough to send a friend off to the Middle East and so tough when our own husbands have to go. I’ll say a prayer for your friend and his family and am as always grateful to all of our service members!

Thank you for your prayers – he is one of my most treasured friends and his wife and daughter, while recent additions to the friend “family” are so important to me as well. I hope and pray that this deployment isn’t too hard on them.
