I had a glimpse into the future the other day when I glanced out my back window. My girls had all gone out to play, as they normally do, but a chill had hit the air – one of the first in the fall season – and they decided to bring blankets and towels out with them to keep warm as they spent time together.
When I took a peek at what they were up to, this is what I found…
I found my girls sitting huddled together in their chairs, snuggled up under their own blankets, just hanging out…it was my first glimpse at their future together and it was a moment of pure joy for me.
As they sat in silence, curled up in their chairs, I envisioned their lives as adults together. I envisioned a fire pit, a glass of wine in their hands with blankets draped over their laps as they shared what was happening in their lives – the good, the hilarious, the sometimes crippling moments that will no doubt come their way. I envisioned the kind of support they will offer one another and it was such a lovely and comforting moment.
Of all the things I’ve done in my life, bringing these three girls into the world is one of my proudest accomplishments. Right now, at ages seven and three, they have their moments of unrest but more often than not, they love one another in a big way. They are already so close and I’m pretty certain that they will always find their way back to one another when they need a friend, a listening ear or just some company on a Friday night.
They are so fortunate to have one another and it is my hope they always remember and protect their relationship because to have family that loves as big as they do….they should hold on tight to that and never let it go.
Do you ever have moments where you feel like you’re getting a glimpse into the future of your child(ren)?
