I want to empower my girls to be strong and resilient. I want them to reach for the stars and believe that they are capable of anything that they set their mind to.
I often ask my daughter, “What do you have to do before you get married?”
“I have to go to college and travel” she replies from repeated discussion on this topic.
Why do I insist she remember this preference of mine? Because marriage and kids is a fabulous milestone in life, but it does change the focus you get to have on yourself. It’s important, in my opinion, for my girls to know themselves well and that they live a period in their life where they are the navigator alone. I think it’s important that my girls have a period in their life where only their dreams are the focus before that of an entire family.
Additionally, I think the princess concept in our little girl’s lives often portray life as being defined by a happy ending with a prince. There are some princesses who are stronger and driven by their own interests but ultimately, the movie ends with them marrying their prince. I love that the Frog Prince ends with Tiana as a restaurant owner. That is how I would love my daughters to lead their life. Pursue dreams in the midst of finding your prince. I don’t want them to forget who they are, what their dreams are as an individual in the pursuit of a partner. I’m hoping they can balance their dreams with their future as a spouse and parent.
This is why I love the Mom I’m featuring today for Chick Mom Life, Missy. You can find her over at Literal Mom where her site mantra is….
Thinking parents make better parents.
This line is featured in her header and it had me at “hello”. Parenting mindlessly does a disservice to our children and sets us up for a future of difficulty.
Here’s Missy and her beautiful little ladies…..
A chick mom life is girl power and learning that we are strong and can do anything we set our minds to.
