It’s a few short hours until 2011 rings in and I can hardly believe that I am this old, let alone have three children and a husband.
Where on earth does the time go?
Let’s reminisce a bit, shall we?
1998 was an epic New Year….
I didn’t even make it to midnight because my college age self thought it clever to drink a few too many tasty beverages early in the evening. My BFF was not too happy with me when she couldn’t find Dick Clark on the TV after she nursed me home from Da’ Club.
She has since forgiven me….
Ringing in 2002 was the first New Year with my husband. We spent it with a bunch of his buddies from the boat he was serving on.
And no I did not give all his friends a New Year kiss. I reserved that just for my guy.
2004 we were in DC at a local Irish Pub. It was an extra special New Year because we enjoyed seeing old friends that we hadn’t seen in a long while…
As you can see Hubby knew how to take down fellow party goers that year…..
2005 I was preggers with my oldest daughter. A bunch of us rented a house in the Outerbanks where the bulk of the party pretended they were still college kids in a house on fraternity row – complete with beer pong table. That was loads of fun for me…..as I sipped on my water…..and a faux shot….as seen below.
As the years have gone on, we still have a good time, some years are throw down and others are more subdued …
a house party with good friends,
progressive dinners with our Hawaiian Ohana
and now this year….we’re watching Harry Potter on DVD.
Don’t worry…we totally plan to put on Dick Clark later….because that’s how we roll.
Funny how things go full circle (refer back to 1998)……..
So, as we “party on” into this evening, I am reminded of the ol’ resolutions. And the truth is…
I’m not really a “resolution” kind of gal.
Well, I am….
but I’m terrible at keeping those resolutions
then I feel like a failure
I hate to feel like a failure….
it just never seems to pan out for me. So instead of those “set in stone” resolutions. I often go with a general plan for the year and oftentimes….elements of that general plan seem to get carried over into the next year…..who needs pressure?
Last year was the exception…I don’t recall making any sort of general plan or list of resolutions because we had just given birth to our 2 lb preemies the week before and I had a hard time thinking past the day I was living in let alone the year ahead.
But this year, is much more promising and I feel my optimistic self coming back into the scene. Last years cautious optimism was plagued with the unknown due to the health and wellness of our little miracles. …Who just turned ONE I might add….
This year’s “resolutions” or general goals include the following:
*Try to stay focused long enough to write regular blog posts…I’m shooting for 3-5 times a week.
*Write for a National Publication
(this is sort of cheating because I just got word that a National Publication wants to use my story….but I’m putting it here anyway because it makes me feel like I’m actually going to accomplish something this year)
*Start a Graduate program for my as-yet to be determined Master’s Degree.
*Scrapbook more often than last year.
* Play with my girls often. Because they’re cute and stuff…
*Have MORE patience – this is a big one, because I have really been a bear in recent weeks.
* Forgive. I have come to realize that this is a tough one for me. Apparently, I hold grudges.
* Attend a writing and/or blogging Conference. (Bloggy Bootcamp, here I come SITStahs!)
* Have regular date night with my other half. He’s kind of awesome, and deserves some undivided attention.
So that’s it for now. What are yours? Share your links in the comments section for your New Year posts….I’m still working on figuring out that linky thing….and yet another resolution…..
Happy New Year friends!!!!
