I’m headed out of town this weekend. It’s a girls road trip with one of my good friends, my oldest daughter and a cute little dude tagging along. He’s only about 8 months old, so we’ll let it slide. We’re headed north to celebrate the impending arrival of our other good friend’s little boy. We’ve been working for a while planning her baby shower from afar and we finally get to see all the ideas come to fruition. We love to plan a good party and it wasn’t that long ago, that we had a fantastic Chic Alice Baby Shower for the little dude mentioned above’s Mom. But more importantly, this is going to be a weekend of reconnecting with old friends and that’s what I’m most excited about.
These two girls were the first friends that I really connected with when I moved away from home. I left my childhood friends, my family and went to be with my husband several states away. I started my career as a teacher and met these two girls.
We were three peas in a pod.
Then life took us away from one another. There were moves for jobs, marriages and babies.
But we remained close at heart. And saw each other as much as possible and made a commitment to keep in touch regularly, which we did and that is what has kept us close knit.
We have loved fierce and with all of our heart and soul because that’s how we roll.
And we have fought. Because, we are some passionate gals.
Oh how we have fought… until our hearts broke at times.
But it’s funny how you go through those times like anything else.
It’s funny how time lightens those burdens. They sting less.
And, now we’re all having babies. And those babies are bringing us into a new chapter in our friendship. A deeper chapter has started and I’m excited to see our kids grow up together.
I sure do love these girls and I have missed them terribly. This weekend couldn’t come at a better time for me.
How have your friendships evolved over time?
