You see these two…..
You see how they are intertwined and so beautifully cuddled together in the womb? It’s a melt-your-heart kind of picture.
Unless of course you know exactly what that kind of closeness means. It means 50-50 odds of making it to viability. It means weeks and weeks in a hospital bed hoping and praying that since you made it to “viability” and your odds are now at 70% that you’ll be one of the lucky ones.
It means that a 28 week delivery can happen and it means that you will be on edge the entire 11 weeks you spend in the Neonatal intensive care unit. Hoping you won’t have to explain to this little one……
why her sisters didn’t make it.
This kind of closeness means you will be tested, your entire family will be tested, your strength and resilience will be challenged and you will dig deep…real deep in an effort to keep it together.
It means that you have to be willing to take a chance that they won’t make it. You have to take a chance and hope, HOPE that you will not lose one or both at any given time.
You see these two….
They made it. We will celebrate their second birthday in a few short months. And when they blow out their candles, I will finally breath again. Because they are healthy. Sure, we have a few delays, but when they are 30, the fact they walked late and talked late will be a distant memory.
Healthy babies aren’t a given. Some of us have to fight for them. Some of us have to HOPE and pray really hard even when praying hasn’t been in our everyday life for a good while.
I am so thankful I live in a country where medical care is stellar and I have doctors who fight as hard as I would if I could do their job because….
Healthy babies aren’t a given.
